HostGator Review 2026: Still Worth Considering?

HostGator was a budget hosting staple for years. Acquired by EIG (now Newfold Digital) in 2012, it's shared infrastructure and ownership with Bluehost, iPage, and dozens of other brands. That consolidation has consequences — good and bad.

Bottom line: HostGator is adequate but not competitive in 2026. Shared hosting TTFB (389ms) is among the slowest we've tested. Hostinger offers better performance at a lower price. SiteGround offers better performance for serious WordPress sites at similar renewal pricing. HostGator is a reasonable fallback if you have existing accounts, but we wouldn't recommend starting there.

HostGator earns 3.8/5 — slightly better than GoDaddy due to its 45-day guarantee and consistent (if slow) infrastructure, but not competitive against modern budget alternatives. In 2026, Hostinger is the better budget choice in every measurable way: faster TTFB, lower renewal rates, NVMe storage, and comparable 24/7 support. SiteGround is the better choice for serious WordPress performance at the $7–15/month renewal range.
